The Opposition BJP on Monday accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of “playing with the lives” of thousands of poor patients by not stepping in to end a strike by doctors at Hindu Rao Hospital in north Delhi.
Leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, questioned as to why the salaries of the doctors had not been paid for three months.
“What can be more embarrassing than the fact that the hospital is in the Capital of the country and the State government is just being a spectator? Kejriwal must answer as to what steps have been planned to be taken to stop this strike,” Mr. Gupta said.
“What happened to the big promises made by Kejriwal for healthcare in Delhi? They [State government] promised to increase the number of beds in Delhi by 30,000, but the number has barely gone up by hundreds. They also promised to open a new hospital but none has been opened,” he argued.
He also alleged that patients in the hospitals under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government were not getting medicines and were “constantly complaining” but, despite this, the Kejriwal government was “quietly sitting and watching”.
The leader of opposition further accused Mr. Kejriwal of “adopting all these steps” to “defeat the BJP” in the upcoming Assembly elections at the expense of the citizens of Delhi.
“Hundreds of projects are stuck in the North and South Municipal Corporations due to lack of funds. It seems Kejriwal is taking revenge from the public for the rejection of AAP by the people during the municipal polls and for his party’s impending defeat in the Lok Sabha elections,” Mr. Gupta alleged.
