New Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet Demonstrates Its Dazzling Pace

The new 911 Cabriolet has been out for a couple of months now. It celebrated its big debut at Geneva and is available in Carrera S and 4S guise.

According to the official spec sheet, performance is pretty darn impressive. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo, flat-six engine produces 450 PS (443 hp / 331 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque.

The rear-wheel drive version needs 3.7 seconds for the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration and has a 306 km/h (190 mph) top speed. Choosing the open-top Carrera 4S will drop the time by one tenth of a second and the top speed to 304 km/h (188 mph).

Now, you may be wondering if these are easily achievable in the real world. And for a good reason, since oftentimes official performance numbers are, let’s say, a bit optimistic compared to the actual performance. The answer comes from AutomannTV on YouTube, who has taken the new 911 Carrera S Cabriolet on a short yet thrilling adventure on a German highway with a no-speed-limit section.

The numbers were measured using a performance box and the driver took advantage of the launch control and ‘Sport’ button. The latter sharpens up the response of the engine and gearbox and allows users to select a specific suspension setup that focuses either on comfort or sporty performance. Also, the optional sports exhaust system is being automatically activated, while other functions, such as the stop/start, deactivated.

So, are Porsche’s numbers verified? Let’s see, shall we?
