Voting began on Sunday across 59 Lok Sabha constituencies spanning seven states and a Union Territory across north, central and east India in the final of the mega seven-phase electoral exercise.

As of 12 p.m., the voter turnout was the highest in West Bengal with an estimated 32.15% followed by Jharkhand (31.39 %), Madhya Pradesh (29.48%), Himachal Pradesh (28.14%), Punjab (23.45%), Uttar Pradesh (23.16%), Chandigarh (22.30%) and Bihar (18.90%), according to data pulled from ECI's 'Voter Turnout' app
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is re-contesting from Varanasi. Besides Modi, 25 other candidates are in fray from Varanasi.
West Bengal reported EVM failures in several booths leading to either delay or stalling of the poll process, an official said.
Voting is also being held in bypolls to four Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, two in Karnataka and the Panaji Assembly seat, which fell vacant after death of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
In Tamil Nadu, repolling commenced at 13 booths in Dharmapuri, Erode, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore Lok Sabha seats.
The Lok Sabha elections started on April 11. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
