AHMEDABAD: Mayur Chauhan, 18, resident of Vejalpur left his house and went missing just because his father Bharat Chauhan, who works as a peon in a company on SG Road, could not buy him a costly mobile phone. After unsuccessful attempts to trace his only son, Chauhan has lodged a complaint with Anandnagar police station on Saturday morning.
According to FIR, Chauhan has two daughters and one son, Mayur. “Mayur had appeared in the class 12 exams and had failed in two subjects. He had re-attempted the exams in March 2019,” said a police official.
The FIR mentions that on Friday night, Mayur demanded a new cellphone from his father who had just returned from the job.
“His father gave him Rs 3,500 and told him to buy a new one but Mayur wanted a bigger budget. His father stated in the FIR that he, Mayur and his wife, on the same night went out to sell off their jewellery to get him a new phone, but they could not find any jewellery shop open,” a top police official said.
Police officials said that later in the night, Mayur touched his father’s feet and told him that he is going to his maternal uncle’s house in Khambhat. “He then packed his bag with a pair of clothes. At that time Bharatbhai called up his brother-in-law and told him to inform him over the phone when Mayur reaches Khambhat,” an investigator said.
However, when Bharatbhai’s brother-in-law did not call him till morning, he got disturbed and started searching for Mayur. He couldn’t get a clue about Mayur’s wherabouts from his friends.
“We have for now registered a complaint of kidnapping according to the norms when a minor goes missing. We are asking his friends about his possible destinations. We have formed a team and even taken help of missing squad of Ahmedabad crime branch to trace him,” said an investigator.
