A photography exhibition depicting various historical moments was organised at the Government Museum, Vellore, on Saturday to mark World Museum Day.
Over 500 visitors including schoolchildren visited the exhibits to learn about our heritage. The exhibition will be open till May 26, an official from the museum said.
Swords of medieval kings, objects of interest belonging to the Kattunaicken, Malayali and Irulas along with the clothing and ornaments of the Lambadi people were part of the anthropology gallery.
Rare exhibits
The swords used by Arani Jagirdhar was among the rare artefacts of this museum, which was well admired by the students who were interested in knowing the background of the king and the impact of his rule.
Karigiri glazed potteries gave visitors a glimpse of the people’s lifestyle. The museum has eight galleries that attracts visitors of all ages.
A couple of 18th Century cannons unearthed from the Vellore Fort are displayed at the entrance.
The museum also houses a sculpture garden wherein statues, hero stones and inscriptions from different eras along with gunpowder flasks and cannon balls are kept on display.
