Nitish Kumar has a suggestion for EC: Complete general election in minimum two or three phases

PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday questioned long drawn multi-phases polling, that too in scorching heat conditions, and categorically advised that general election should be held in minimum possible phases, preferably in two or three phases, but not in so many phases like this year.
“Such long drawn elections should not be held in such intense scorching heat conditions. This (hot season) is not a proper time for holding elections. The election should not be held in so many phases. It must be held either in February-March or October-November in minimum possible phases so that it could be convenient for people,” Nitish told reporters after casting his vote at a polling booth near Raj Bhawan here.
CM cast his vote at polling booth no- 326 located at the Government Middle School near Raj Bhawan. The booth falls under Digha assembly segment of Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency where Congress candidate and sitting MP Shatrughan Sinha is locked in a close contest with Union minister and BJP candidate Ravi Shankar Prasad.
“It would have been far better if the general elections are held in single phase across the country. But since our country is so big that elections should be completed in a minimum two or three phases,” Nitish, who is also the JD(U) president, said. JD(U) is an ally of BJP in Bihar.
The JD(U) president also suggested for convening an all-party meet to make a consensus on the issue of holding a general election in minimum possible phases and in favourable weather conditions.
“I recently spoke to many people in different parties. All people to whom I spoke, gave a similar opinion that election should be held in minimum phases,” Nitish said, adding he - - as JD(U) president - - would write to presidents of different political parties to make a consensus on the issue.

Responding to a media query, Nitish exuded confidence that the BJP-led NDA would form government at the Centre under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi.
To another question, Nitish said, “Pradhan Mantri Jee usually do Yoga, there is no need of making a political comment on such issue.”
