Man held for duping youths in name of ‘jobs’ in armed forces

Kanpur: Police on Sunday arrested a fraudster who used to deceive job seekers by promising them jobs in the Armed forces. According to police, after posing himself as a ‘Lt Colonel’ he used to befool youths who were in a search of jobs.
Police identified the fraudster as Surya Pratap, resident of Fatehgarh in Uttar Pradesh. He was nabbed from a city hotel where he was hiding. He managed to expand his network in various cities of the state, including Etawah, Hardoi, Auraiya, Meerut etc, the police said.
He told the police that he had made several attempts to crack the entrance exam for the Army but he could not make through. It was after this that he started cheating and deceiving people in the garb of getting them a government job in the Armed forces.

Police, during investigation learnt, that Surya Pratap had bluffed people to a tune of several lakhs of rupees. The police are also facing difficulty in interrogating Surya Pratap since he has been changing his statements. “First he said that he is a resident of Ghatampur in Kanpur and later said that he is a native of Auraiyya district. He used to operate from Kanpur and Fatehgarh since the two places are hub of defence activities”, said a police officer.
