Ludhiana: As many as 4,500 cops along with 800 paramilitary personnel have been deployed to ensure security and maintain law and order on the polling day in Ludhiana. Officials said paramilitary forces have been deployed at all sensitive booths. The constituency has 189 hyper sensitive and 289 sensitive booths.
The city has a total of 649 polling locations comprising a total of 1,576 polling booths in seven segments under Ludhiana parliamentary constituency. Among these, a maximum 74 hyper sensitive polling stations are in Atam Nagar constituency, followed Sahnewal (28) and South and Gill constituency (27). A maximum 106 sensitive polling stations are in Gill constituency, followed Sahnewal (63) and South constituency (40).
Ludhiana police commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill said a total 4,500 cops and 11 paramilitary companies comprising a total 800 personnel will be on duty to ensure security and hassle-free polling. Besides, there would be 133 patrolling parties on road comprising two cops each for a strict surveillance.
“The commissionerate has been divided into four zones. Paramilitary forces have been deployed at all sensitive and hyper sensitive polling locations,” he said.
District election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Pradeep Agarwal said besides deployment of paramilitary forces at sensitive and hyper sensitive booths, webcasting will also be held to ensure that polls are conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The police officials have appealed to people to alert police control room if they witness illegal activities in the city during polls, he added.
