Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been hailed a modern Bob Hawke after spending the day after his historic election win drinking beers at a rugby league game.
The Coalition leader retained the top job despite polls suggesting Opposition Leader Bill Shorten would emerge from Saturday's election victorious.
He is expected to form a majority government, with the Liberal party now holding 75 seats after the first batch of postal votes were counted, and leading in other regions.
Boothby and Wentworth were both won by the Liberals, with Bass expected to become the 76th seat - giving Mr Morrison and his party their majority.
Mr Morrison spent Sunday surrounded by family, attending a service at his local church in the morning before attending his beloved Cronulla Sharks home game with his eldest daughter, Lily.
Comparisons to the Labor party's late leader Bob Hawke were picking up momentum on social media after photos of Mr Morrison enjoying a drink at the game surfaced.

After a gruelling few weeks campaigning alongside his wife Jenny ahead of the election, Mr Morrison said the day out with his eldest daughter was much needed.
A beaming Mr Morrison asked reporters 'who'd miss this?' before shaking hands and posing for selfies with Sharks supporters.
The Coalition leader has been a well-known supporter of the Cronulla Sharks NRL team and is the number one ticket holder at the club.

He was spotted enjoying a beer and waving his Sharks scarf in the air at one stage, as fans took photos and cheered him on.
'Regardless of your political leanings this is great to see. A nation's leader genuinely enjoying himself at the footy,' one supporter wrote on Twitter.
But others were quick to point out Mr Morrison's beloved Sharks loss to the Manly Sea Eagles.
'How good is Manly? Kicked out Abbott yesterday, and beat the Sharks in front of gloating ScoMo today,' one football fan said.
'Not even ScoMo could pull off two miracles in one weekend to save his beloved Sharks.'
