FS Stars give Rodgers the boot

2019-05-19 12:05

Cape Town - Striker Eleazar Rodgers has revealed that he is one of several players to be released from Free State Stars after the club was relegated from the Absa Premiership.

Despite being relegated, Ea Lla Koto actually scored 31 goals in the 2018/19 season, more than six other clubs - including sixth-placed SuperSport United.

However, Rodgers only managed to contribute four to that total in 26 league matches played and thus was deemed to no longer have a future with the club down in the National First Division.

"I have been released from the club, or most of us have been released," the forward told KickOff.

"I'm still finalising things before I leave, but ja you could say I'm gone. We got relegated and the club can no longer afford those who are left."

When asked if he would've been willing to go down with the club and help them fight for promotion if given the opportunity he answered: "We never thought we would go down so I never thought of it," he says. "I guess there was always a level of uncertainty to stay or leave. But I'm loyal so if it came to that then it would be fine, but ja it didn't."
