Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner, said on Saturday that arrangements for the counting of votes for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru parliamentary constituency on May 23 had been done here.
Addressing presspersons here, Ms. Korlapati said that the counting will take place in 14 rooms of St. Cecily’s School counting centre here.
While votes from Kundapur and Karkala Assembly segments will be counted in one room, the votes of the remaining six Assembly segments will be counted in two rooms. Postal ballots will be counted on five different tables.
As many as eight Assistant Returning Officers and six Additional Returning Officers will supervise the counting of votes in every room.
A total of 127 counting supervisors, 131 counting assistants, 127 micro observers, 127 ‘D’ Group employees, 21 persons for tabulation, will be pressed into service during the counting of votes.
All the officers and staff were given the first round of training on May 17 and the second round will be on Sunday [May 19].
All the candidates could nominate one counting agent for every table.
In order to ensure peace and order during the counting of votes and as a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure code will be under force in Udupi district from 6 a.m. on May 23 to 6 a.m. on May 25. Bursting of fire crackers during victory processions remained banned in the district from 10 a.m. on May 22 to 5 p.m. on May 24.
