Insurance fraud: Pre-arrest bail plea of doctor rejected

The Sonepat district and sessions court turned down the anticipatory bail plea of a 34-year-old doctor, Ambuj Jain, who had allegedly conducted post mortem examinations in cases where cancer deaths were fraudulently declared as accidental to claim insurance as part of a multi-million scam.

Satheesh Balan, deputy inspector general, special task force, said the doctor’s counsel had earlier also filed bail plea but had withdrawn the application on May 1. The police said that he has not reported to work since he was booked on April 19 and they have been conducting raids at suspected locations to trace him.

“The doctor was equally involved with the gang members and has been named by the accused arrested recently as well as the family of the deceased persons...he was involved in 12 to 14 cases where he had conducted the post mortem examination and prepared the report as asked by Pawan Bhoria, the kingpin of the gang,” he said. Police said the accused was posted at Civil Hospital.
