AHMEDABAD: Ravji
Chauhan, Sunil Sahni, Sarvajeetkumar Sahni, and Lalsinh Ravat died after falling into the water tank at Ambikanagar
stormwater pumping station in Odhav at 12.30am on Sunday. According to sources, the four along with their supervisor, Chetan Bamniya, were engaged in preventive cleaning of the pump before the
monsoon.
According to the statement given by the supervisor to police, when the men started their work, poisonous gas billowed out. The four fell unconscious and tumbled into the underground water tank.
Top police sources said that according to the supervisor’s statement, he then called the 108 emergency service and the fire department.
“The fire department personnel pulled all the four labourers out. The 108 emergency service officials then declared them dead,” said the supervisor’s statement. “The bodies were sent for the postmortem examination by Odhav police.” The police officials said that the four labourers used to work for Mahima Industries and Rama Industries which are run by the same group which is on contract with the AMC for preventive cleaning of stormwater pumps. “We have found that the necessary safety gear was not given to the labourers,” said deputy commissioner of police zone-5 Akshayraj Makwana. “We have summoned the owners of the group.”
