17th National Museum Week in Brazil, a cultural season that invites tourists

In addition to tourist attractions, museums are important producers and recipients of practices, customs and thoughts of Brazilian culture, Brazil Tourism Ministry said in a media statement.

 

“Brazil is a barn of cultural attractions – so much so that we are considered the 8th country in cultural attractions – and museums are part of this tourism context. The National Policy on Tourism Management of Historic and Natural World Heritage published in April as one of the goals of the 100 days of the federal government, we will certainly be able to increase the visitation in the destinations, the preservation and appreciation of the culture,” commented Bob Santos, the national secretary of Inter-institutional Integration of the Ministry of Tourism.

 

In São Paulo, several institutions participate in the National Museum Week, among them the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, in the Parque da Luz. The Afro Brasil Museum, in the Ibirapuera Park, will perform a cord-themed action with Afro- Brazilians. The Football Museum, in the Pacaembu Stadium, is another option for those wishing to take a trip to Brazil’s most popular sport.

 

In Belo Horizonte (MG), the program will be distributed in more than 30 cultural spaces. In the Museum of Fashion, one of the highlights is the exhibition “Traditions Mineiras”. At the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, you will have the exhibition “DreamWorks Animation – A Journey from Sketch to Screen”. In the Museum of Natural Sciences of PUC Minas, there will be simulation of archaeological and paleontological excavations. Already in the Museum House Kubitscheck, the exhibition “Bordando Memórias” presents pieces that portray the furniture and botanical collection.

 

In Rio de Janeiro, the Museum of Tomorrow, in Plaza Mauá, will take the visitor to reflect on the future, regionalism and the meaning of tradition. The Brazilian Mint, in Praça da República, will present an exhibition of its historical collection and another one about the Royal Cédula. Already the Museum of the Republic inaugurates the exhibition “Palace, Presidency, Museum”, on the History of the Palace of the Catete, from its foundation until becoming the present Museum of the Republic.

 

The Casa da Hera Museum, in Vassouras (RJ), which reopened to the public, is a nineteenth-century farmhouse, which depicts a farm of Rio’s historic destination at the height of the coffee cycle in the Paraíba Valley. The tourist can visit the exhibition “The Valley and its Traditions”. In the city of Petrópolis (RJ), the Imperial Museum inaugurated a new pavilion for reception of the tourists. The museum, which was the Summer Palace of the Brazilian royal family, receives around 400,000 visitors a year.

 

In Natal (RN), the Câmara Cascudo Museum has special and free programming. The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte will exhibit anthropology research such as “Tools to Hurt the Stone”, “Archeology Out of the Box” and a virtual reality installation “Life of the Dinosaurs”. The puppet theater, which is an intangible heritage of the Northeast, is one of the aspects of popular culture, with emphasis on the anthropology museum of UFRN. Visitors will be able to follow the show “The bravado of Baltazar in the lands of João Redondo”.

 

In Recife (PE), there are many museum options, among them, the forts of Brum and Cinco Pontas. The Paço do Frevo preserves the history and movements of the Pernambuco rhythm recognized by Unesco as the immaterial patrimony of humanity. At the Abolition Museum, in the Madalena neighborhood, more than 30 artists present drawings, engravings, videos, installations, photographs, performances, among other expressions and languages. The Mostra Nacional Trovoa is held in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), São Paulo (SP), Marabá and Belém (PA), Vitória (ES) and Salvador (BA).

 

Since its inception, the Ministry of Tourism has supported structuring projects that encourage cultural tourism. In all, there were 653 projects of Museums and cultural centers in all regions of Brazil, with transfer value of R $ 313 million. In Natal (RN), the Ministry of Tourism invested R $ 8 million in the restoration of the Rampa Museum, the former seaplane base of the Potengi River, which received new installations for the implantation of the WWII Museum and the Aviation Memorial.
