He was honeytrapped by woman in a 5-star hotel: police

A Mumbai-based businessman was allegedly kidnapped for a ransom of ₹30 lakh after being honeytrapped at a five-star hotel in Chanakyapuri on Friday night, the police said on Saturday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Eish Singhal said six persons, including four women, have been arrested.

A senior officer said the accused have been identified as Rahul, Dheeraj, Shweta, Vandana, Babli and Bhagwat Devi.

The police said they had received a PCR call from the victim’s business partner around 11 p.m. stating that the 64-year-old had been kidnapped. “The caller said the victim had checked-in at the hotel a day before the incident. He shared the number from which the ransom call was made. The initial demand was ₹40 lakh but later it was reduced to ₹30 lakh,” said the officer.

CCTV footage

“The CCTV footage from the hotel showed victim boarding a vehicle along with a woman. As one team worked to ascertain the details of the vehicle, another traced the location from where the call was made,” the officer said.

The car was found to be registered in Jangpura but the accused were not found there. The location, however, was traced to Laxmi Nagar after which the team found the vehicle lying in a parking zone there. “Meanwhile, the police asked the business partner to engage with the accused. A trap was laid near the vehicle and the accused were told to come for taking the ransom. Two men who came to the specific location in Laxmi Nagar were then nabbed,” the officer said.

The accused then shared the location of the businessman after which the police rescued him at 6 a.m. on Saturday. “This gang appears to operate in Delhi and it is being ascertained if they have trapped more victims,” the officer said.
