A man has tragically died in his mother's arms after accidentally shooting himself in the chest with a homemade gun.
Timmothy Matthew Gardiner, 29, died in a Ravenswood home, in Northern Tasmania on Saturday.
Police and emergency services were called to Blyth Street at 7.50am after the 'unstable, homemade firearm' had suddenly discharged.

The incident had happened at a different address, but Mr Gardiner had managed to make his way to his mother's home, a police investigation has found.
He died in in his mother's living room as his mother cradled him, detective Inspector Kim Steven said.
'Police have spoken to three other men who were present when the incident occurred,' Insp Steven said.
'This is a tragic accident and our thoughts are with Tim’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.'

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
Following the tragedy, police have reminded residents that homemade firearms are not only illegal but can be extremely dangerous.
Tasmania has a permanent firearms amnesty, where members of the public can hand in unwanted, unregistered or illegal firearms without penalty.
Tasmania has had a permanent firearm amnesty in place since 1997 following the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 where 35 people were killed and 23 people were injured.
