A 40-year-old woman was stabbed to death after a fight broke out between her and a neighbour in south-west Delhi’s Rangpuri, the police said on Friday. The victim was washing utensils outside her house which led to spilling of water in front of the neighbour’s house, the police said.

The accused, identified as Gopal Singh (22), has been arrested, they also said.

They said that the victim has been identified as Rekha, who lived in Rangpuri village in Mahipalpur with her husband and two children. Gopal had an argument with Rekha over water spilled outside his house.

“Gopal got furious during the argument with Rekha. He went inside his house and came out with a knife. Before the victim or her family members could understand anything, he attacked her with the knife and stabbed her multiple times on the chest and stomach,” said a police officer.

The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital by her family members and locals where she succumbed to the serious injuries during treatment. The hospital then informed the police about the incident.

“We got a call from hospital around 8 p.m. regarding a woman who had been admitted with stab wounds. They said her condition was critical. A police team reached the hospital where people told them about the entire incident. The police team went to the spot where she was attacked,” added the officer.

The accused was arrested from the same area. The knife used in the attack was also recovered from his possession.

“A case under Section 302 [murder] of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Vasant Kunj South police station. The accused has been arrested. The case is under investigation,” said a police officer.
