DMK president M.K. Stalin on Friday reiterated that the AIADMK government will fall after the counting of votes on May 23.

“Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaswami in his campaign meetings has been accusing me of trying to topple his government. He claims that it will turn out to be a dream. But it will happen. There is no need for anyone to make any effort to topple the government. It will come to an end on its own after the results of Lok Sabha and byelections are out,” Mr. Stalin said while canvassing for his party candidate V. Senthil Balaji at Thadakovil in Aravakurichi constituency on the last day of the campaign on Friday.

Mr. Stalin reiterated that the DMK would not come to power through the backdoor as it believed in democracy. The minority AIADMK government would be thrown out by the power of democracy. The Supreme Court stay on the disqualification proceedings initiated by the Assembly Speaker against three dissident AIADMK MLAs had thwarted the attempts of the ruling party to continue in power. The party might make fresh moves to continue in office. But it would not succeed as the BJP government at the Centre, which had been supporting the AIADMK, would also be thrown out.

Confident of victory

The DMK, Mr. Stalin said, would sweep all the 22 Assembly seats, including the four constituencies where byelections are being held on Sunday. People would extend overwhelming support to the DMK. Winning the 22 seats would be sufficient (for the DMK) to form the government. The party would form a majority government with the support of its alliance parties in the State.

Mr. Stalin said bypolls offered an excellent opportunity for the people to vote out the AIADMK government. The voters of four Assembly constituencies should not fail to use this opportunity to show the door to Mr. Palaniswami.

Referring to the Lok Sabha elections, the DMK president was confident that the people of the State had voted against the Narendra Modi government.

They visited the polling booths with determination to see that Mr. Modi did not continue in office even for a minute.

The voters had the same determination that the “slave” government in the State should not continue. The election results on May 23 would prove it. There was no doubt about it, he said.

Mr. Stalin, who began his campaign at 8 a.m. on the last day of electioneering, went on a whirlwind tour in Aravakurichi constituency and spoke at various places, including Esanatham and Chinnadharapuram to win over the confidence of voters.
