NEW DELHI: Following up on his claims after he was slapped during election campaigning in west Delhi that he would one day be killed and BJP would attribute it to unhappiness with Aam Aadmi Party, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal reiterated the idea and said that the saffron party could get him killed by his own personal security officer.
This evoked a sharp reaction from Delhi Police, which asserted that all personnel deployed for the CM’s security were “committed to their duties”. City BJP leaders also dismissed Kejriwal’s statement as being the result of “his failure to make political capital” of the slapping incident in Moti Nagar.
Talking to a news channel in Punjab on Saturday after electioneering for the last phase of Lok Sabha polls, Kejriwal alleged, “The security … they all report to the BJP government. My own PSO reports to BJP. Tomorrow, like Indira ji (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi), BJP will get me killed through my PSO... my life may be snuffed out in two minutes.”
He carried on, “I will be murdered and police will say it was a disgruntled party worker. If a Congress worker is angry with captain sa’ab (Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh), can he hit him? If a BJP worker is angry with Modi ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), can he hit him?” Kejriwal asked.
The Delhi CM followed it up with a tweet in Hindi to say, “Why does BJP want to get me killed? What is my fault? I am only getting schools and hospitals built for citizens. For the first time in the country, there’s positive politics around schools and hospitals. BJP wants to destroy it. But I will continue working for the country till my last breath.”
Delhi Police issued a statement to assert that its security unit had well-trained personnel who were thoroughly committed to their job and performed their duties with dedication and professionalism. “The unit has been providing security cover to dignitaries of all political parties. The personnel posted in the security team of honourable CM, Delhi, are equally committed to their duties,” added Anil Mittal, additional PRO, Delhi Police.
The CM enjoys ‘Z’ category security and has a detail of 25 personnel providing him cover. His official residence at Civil Lines is also secured by Delhi Police personnel. Kejriwal’s daughter, who received some threats earlier this year, has been provided with a personal security officer.
BJP also retorted to say that the AAP convenor’s “failure” to get any political advantage out of the slapping incident in west Delhi was the reason for his “outburst” against the party. Senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta alleged that the AAP leader was trying to get “cheap popularity”. “If the CM has no faith in his PSO and doubts his integrity, he should have reported the matter to police immediately and got him replaced,” Gupta said.

Gupta claimed to have accessed the police daily diary pertaining to the day Kejriwal was slapped and discovered that the CM had himself asked his liaising officer to remove his security. “I revealed this at a press conference earlier,” Gupta tweeted.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia promptly retaliated to this by tweeting, “Vijender Gupta’s tweet proves that the daily report of CM’s security is reaching BJP and on the basis of it, BJP is plotting his murder.”
