More than two-and-a-half days after the water released by Karnataka started reaching Jurala reservoir, 0.445 tmc ft water has been realised till 6 p.m. on Friday.
As the flow to Jurala is constantly receding and was measured at 850 cusecs at 6 p.m. on Friday, the project authorities are now worried whether realisation of water would even reach one tmc ft, although Karnataka has released 2.5 tmc ft water from Narayanpur dam to Jurala to meet the drinking water needs in combined Mahabubnagar district following a request made by the Telangana government.
According to irrigation officials, the water level in Jurala which was 1,025.89 feet and 1.85 tmc ft capacity (storage) when Karnataka water started reaching the reservoir around midnight on Tuesday (May 14) has reached 1,027.88 ft and storage of 2.295 tmc ft at 6 p.m. on Friday. It took more than 64 hours to realise 0.445 tmc ft water from the upstream, the officials said.
However, uncertainty looms large over the quantity of water to be realised in Jurala now as the flow has been receding constantly. From the highest inflow of 2,970 cusecs water released by Karnataka recorded at 6 a.m. on Thursday, it has fallen down to 1,350 cusecs by Thursday evening.
The inflow saw further depletion as it was recorded at 912 cusecs on Friday morning and it has further come down to 850 cusecs in the evening. In the first 18 hours the realisation of water in Jurala was 0.220 tmc ft but over the next 46 hours the yield is another 0.225 tmc ft.
