LGBTI Mexicans fight homophobia with kiss-off

ROUGH CUT.

NO REPORTER NARRATION.

Activists took part in a kiss-off in Mexico to promote a message of tolerance and inclusion in the conservative Catholic country.

Mexico City is home to the most visible gay community in the country and couples freely express affection in many parts of the city.

Outside the capital attitudes differ sharply, with activists reporting an impunity towards discrimination and violence against homosexuals.

In 2010, Mexico City pushed legislation to become the first Latin American capital to extend to same-sex couples the same marriage and adoption rights as heterosexuals.

But nationally conservative states have fiercely opposed such moves in their regions.
