MUMBAI: A businessman, Rahul Jain, was recently arrested from Ahmedabad for printing fake currency and handing it over to a small-time model at a five star hotel in the western suburbs of the city. The model too had been arrested in the case.

On April 8, the model went to an ATM in Bandra (W) and started depositing cash into it. Since the machine would not accept any cash over Rs 84,000, she contacted the bank. On verification, bank officials discovered that all 42 notes of Rs 2,000 each which had been deposited were fake. "The bank lodged a complaint. We arrested her on April 19," said an officer from Bandra police station. The model told the police she had no idea the notes were fake and she got the money from Jain. The police traced him to Ahmedabad. He was arrested on May 12 and is in police custody.
Jain told the police that the notes were meant for a mutual acquaintance with whom he had a monetary dispute. "Jain got a colour printer in the hotel and printed copies of real currency notes," said a police officer. Jain claims he assumed the model was giving the notes to the acquaintance but she deposited them instead.
