AHMEDABAD: A 35-year-old man, a resident of Thakorvas near Umiya Vijay Crossroads, was beaten to death by four men, including a friend of his, over a petty issue.
The deceased was identified as Kalu Dhobi, who had been living in the city for about 10 years, and made a living by ironing clothes in Satellite.
The accused persons were identified as Puran Dhobi (55); his son Hemant (21); Ajay Jhala (20), and Dhiru Pandey, (21), all residents of Narol. Satellite police arrested all four accused and booked them for murder and abduction, said inspector M B Jhala.
“The four men had late on Thursday night abducted Kalu from Narol, where he had gone to meet his brother and then took him to a secluded place near Narol Bridge. The accused beat him unconscious and left him under the bridge,” said Jhala.
As the victim and the accused are from Rajasthan and belong to same community, they used to help each other out. Recently, Puran had got more clothes than usual and sought Kalu’s help. When the latter demanded money for this, Puran refused. After this, the two fought on multiple occasions and had even threatened each other, said a police official.

Kalu was allegedly an alcoholic who would abuse Puran after getting drunk. In a recent incident, Kalu mocked Puran as the latter’s daughter had eloped with someone. This did not go well with Puran who planned to kill Kalu. On Thursday, he called his son and two of his friends and attacked Kalu, causing his death.
Police sent Kalu’s body for a postmortem and began an investigation.
