CHENNAI: Southern Railway has cancelled 113 suburban services on the Chennai-Arakkonam section this weekend. Of this, 101 will be cancelled on Sunday morning, affecting scores of commuters who travel in the time. An official release said a power block has been sanctioned for 12 hours from 9.40pm on Saturday to 9.40am on Sunday to facilitate construction of a passenger subway at Vepampattu railway station yard.
The MMC-Thiruvallur EMU (43251) leaving at 8.55pm, the Arakkonam local leaving at 9.15pm, the Tiruvallur local leaving at 9.40pm, the Arakkonam local leaving at 10.10pm, the Arakkonam local at 10.45pm and the Tiruvallur local at 11.10pm and 11.45pm have been cancelled for Saturday.
In the return direction, the Tiruvallur-MMC local at 9.55pm, the Tiruvallur-Avadi local at 10.10pm, the Tiruttani-MMC local at 9.45pm, the Arakkonam-MMC local at 9.25pm and Arakkonam-MMC local at 9.45pm have been cancelled. On Sunday, 30 EMU services from MMC, nine EMU services from Chennai Beach, three from Avadi, two from Arakkonam, one each from Thiruvallur and Ennore towards Avadi, Tiruvallur, Pattabiram Siding, Tiruttani, Kadambattur and Arakkonam have been fully cancelled (46 EMU trains) from 1.20am to 10.45am.
Similarly, in the return direction, 41 EMU services from Avadi, Tiruvallur, Pattabiram Siding, Tiruttani, Kadambattur, Arakkonam, Ponneri and Vellore to MMC, 12 EMU services to Chennai Beach, one to Ponneri and one to Arakkonam have been fully cancelled (55 EMU trains) from 3.20am to 8am.
Some passenger specials will be run. On Saturday, three passenger specials from MMC to Thiruvallur at 8.55pm, 11.45pm and 11.55pm and two from MMC to Arakkonam at 9.20pm and 10.20pm, and one from MMC to Avadi at 11.50pm will be run. These will not stop at Vepampattu and Sevvapet Road stations.
In the return direction, there will be two passenger specials from Arakkonam to MMC at 9.55pm and 10pm, one from Tiruvallur to Avadi at 10.40pm, and one from Thiruvallur to MMC at 10pm. These will not stop at Putlur, Thiruninravur, Nemillichery and Pattabiram.

On Sunday, there will be a passenger special from MMC to Tirupati at 7.30am and four from MMC to Arakkonam at 4.40am, 5.10am, 6.15am and 8.05am. The trains will not stop at Vepapampattu and Sevvapet Road stations, the release said.
In return direction, there will be five specials from Arakkonam to MMC at 3.45am, 4.40am, 6.00am, 6.40am and 9.15am and one passenger special from Vellore to Chennai Beach at 6am. These will not stop at Putlur, Thiruninravur, Nemillichery and Pattabiram.
