KOLKATA: The rescue team at
Kangchenjunga have spotted the two climbers—Kuntal Karar and
Biplab Baidya above 8,000-meter level. Their bodies are expected to be brought down to
Kathmandu on Sunday. Meanwhile,
West Bengal government is also preparing a team for rescuing Dipankar Ghosh who got lost after Mount Makalu summit.
A team of around 10 started the rescue operation from Friday afternoon. The team of Sherpas had reached the camp IV on Friday night and started search operation under leadership of Dawa Wangchu Sherpa. Both Karar and Baidya’s lifeless bodies were located above 8,000-meter. “Sherpas brought the bodies down to the camp IV by the afternoon. They will be further brought down to camp II by Sunday and then heli-rescued to Kathmandu,” said Pasang Sherpa of the Peak Promotion—the agency conducting the rescue operation. “But the weather at camp II was not conducive to flying helicopter today. The rescue operation tomorrow depends on the weather conditions. We are also trying to rescue Dipankar Ghosh,” said Bengal’s sports minister Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
Meanwhile Sonarpur Arohi—the club with which Karar was attached to, on its facebook page posted that a team of six Sherpas found it difficult to bring down the bodies as the weather turned truant. “The agencies involved in the operation tried to bring down the bodies on Saturday. But the weather conditions were not favourable. The team from the state government have been monitoring the recuse operation,” the post said.
