A speeding car killed a 38-year-old conservancy worker who was sweeping a road at Ghot village in Taloja at 8 a.m. on Friday. The police said Dinesh Dharma Bhoir (21), a resident of the village, was speeding as he was late for work and ran over Aruna Chandrakant Kadam.
Police sub-inspector Machindra Shendge said, “The accused was also injured in the accident. He is undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital. He will be arrested as soon as he is discharged.”
Aruna Kadam
Chandrashekhar Khamkhar, Assistant Commissioner, Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said, “Aruna was an employee of the gram panchayat since 2009. After PCMC was formed, the employees of the gram panchayat were included into the corporation. She was posted for the seven-hour morning shift and earned ₹6,000 a month. The family can claim an insurance of ₹10 lakh. As she died on duty, one of her legal heirs can avail of a job.”
On January 9, two conservancy workers attached to the PCMC died while cleaning the sewers at Kalundre in Panvel. “The families of both conservancy workers claimed insurance and received ₹10 lakh each,” Mr. Khamkhar said.
