Two held for sweet shop robbery were out on bail

Gurgaon: Two criminals, who had allegedly robbed a sweet shop owner at gunpoint on May 8, were arrested from Badshapur area on Thursday. Two country-made pistols were seized from their possession, police said.
According to the police, the accused had reached the sweet shop — New Mamta Sweets and Restaurant — on a scooter around 10.30 pm on May 8, fired two rounds in the air and snatched Rs 50,000 from the shop owner Vinod Kumar and fled.
An FIR was registered against the duo under sections section 285 and 379A of the IPC and Arms Act at Badshapur police station and during investigation the Sohna crime unit received information about the accused moving around Badshapur area. A team headed by inspector Satender reached the area and arrested the accused. They were identified as Ajab Singh alias Bichhu and Dinesh alias Major, both residents of Bandhwari.
During interrogation, it came to light that Ajab and Dinesh were history-sheeters and had come out on bail in April. There are at least six cases registered against Dinesh, while Ajab has seven cases registered against him at different police stations. Dinesh was earlier arrested for the murder of Dr Rajkumar in July 2017, was found guilty by court and sent to jail. In 2018, he was booked under the Prison Act for possession of am mobile phone in the jail. That same year, a case was registered against him for criminal intimidation, rioting and other IPC sections in Shivaji Nagar police station.
“The seven cases against Ajab mostly involve snatching, robbery and attempt to murder. Initial investigations have revealed that cases are registered against him in the DLF-1 and Shivaji Nagar police stations. We are verifying if there are more cases registered against the duo in other police stations,” an officer said.

Police sources said that Ajab was arrested and sent to jail in February in a snatching case. In April, he too came out of jail on bail.
“The duo come from the same village and hatched the plan of committing the robbery after coming out of jail. They reached the shop at a time when footfall is low to avoid being nabbed by locals. As the scooter, that they used for the crime, did not have a numberplate and the sweet shop’s CCTV was defunct, identifying them took at least a week,” an officer said. The duo was produced in court on Friday and sent to judicial custody.
