BENGALURU: A 28-year-old car driver has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 23-year-old housekeeping staff of a private firm and trying to make it look like a suicide.
Police said Selva, an Electronics City resident and a driver with a private firm in Marathahalli, murdered his former girlfriend, Bharathi V, as her marriage had been fixed with another man and she refused to continue her affair with him.
Police said Bharathi, from Mulabagal, came in contact with Selva when they were working with the private firm in Marathahalli two years ago and became close friends. The duo was in a relationship, but Selva turned furious when he learnt her marriage was fixed with another man.
Selva visited Bharathi’s residence in Roopena Agrahara on May 10 and asked her not to marry someone else. She did not heed his words and he strangled her to death with her dupatta.
Door locked from inside
Selva planned to pass off Bharathi’s murder as a case of suicide and thought people may get to know it was a murder if the door was locked from outside. So, he locked the door from inside and escaped through a window.

Bharathi’s fiance reached her house at 7am on May 11 and found the door locked from inside. She did not respond to his calls or knocks on the door. So, he peeped through window and saw her lying on the floor. He informed police, who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. They found Bharathi dead with a noose around her neck.
Bharathi’s mother Chinnamma, who arrived from Mulabagal, suspected foul play and complained against Selva. Police registered a case of a suspicious death and postmortem revealed she had died due to ligature strangulation. During interrogation, Selva confessed to the crime, following which police arrested him. He was produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
