GREATER NOIDA: Four men were detained for allegedly killing a 26-year-old man who had been prodding them to repay a loan of Rs 10 lakh. The accused had allegedly asked the victim to join them for drinks on Wednesday, but shot him dead and dumped his body in the Kherli river in Greater Noida's Dadri.
The deceased was identified as Mohit Kumar, a resident of Saini village in Ecotech 3.
Police said Mohit had gone missing on May 15 and his family had lodged a missing person's complaint at the local police station. Mohit was last seen near a wine shop in a Honda Amaze with four of his friends - Prashant, Gaurav, Akhil and Varun - all residents of the same village. "From the beginning itself, Mohit's family suspected his friends of murder. They pointed out that Prashant owed Mohit Rs 3 lakh while Gaurav had to repay Rs 7 lakh," said Vaibhav Krishna, the Gautam Budh Nagar SSP.

The accused were detained and questioned over the allegations. "They confessed before police that they had offered a few drinks to Mohit and then shot him dead. They had dumped the body in Kherli river of Dadri as they needed to escape the debt. The accused men also told police that Mohit had been prodding them to repay the loan," said Krishna.
Cops recovered Mohit's body on Friday after a search by an NDRF team in the area.
