Brazil Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, who suggested adopting the measure to President Jair Bolsonaro, points out that the initiative follows trends in order to facilitate the flow of travelers.
“Increasingly, foreign tourists are looking for affordable destinations. So much so that there has been a significant increase in the demand for the destination Brazil by tourists from the beneficiary countries. This is a strategic opening, which has a strong potential to contribute to the generation of foreign exchange, employment and income through tourism in our country, “he said.
The stay of tourists from the four countries in Brazil can be up to 90 days, extendable for the same period, provided that it does not exceed 180 days, every 12 months, counting from the date of the first entry. The change applies to holders of a passport valid for travel and leisure tourism, artistic or sporting activities or in exceptional situations of national interest, as well as valid for tourists in transit.
It is expected that the exemption will contribute to Brazil achieving the goal of receiving 12 million foreigners per year, set in the National Tourism Plan 2018-2022, against the current 6.6 million.
Data released in April by the Amadeus Group, one of the largest travel and technology companies in the world, proves positive visa waiver results.
The figures increased from 53% to 158% in the amount of reservations in national destinations made by tourists from the four countries to visit Brazil between June and September of this year. There was also growth in the country’s surveys for tourism, with rates varying from 31% to 76%.
