Bhopal: In a killing spree, a 35-year-old man axed to death his parents and wife and seriously injured his seven-year-old son over a family dispute in Semer Ghat village in Raisen district on Wednesday night. The accused is on the run. Bareli, SDOP, Shiv Charan Bohati said, Jitendra Puraviya, 35, axed his father Jalam Singh, mother Sharada and wife Sunita to death. His seven-year-old son who was present in the house also sustained bullet injuries, he has been referred to Bhopal. Sharing the details, the SDOP said apparently over money, Jitendra first thrashed his wife and when his parents intervened, he attacked them with an axe and then opened fire.
His elder son also sustained bullet injuries in the incident. Seeing his parents and wife falling unconscious, Jitendra fled from the spot. Hearing gun shots, neighbours and other villagers rushed to the house, but by then Jitendra had fled. Prima facie family dispute seems to be the cause of gruesome murders, however, what instigated the man to hack his family to death would be known after the arrest of the accused, who is on the run, said the officer. SP Monika Shukla confirmed that there was no gunshot injury on the bodies and there were sharp cuts and blunt marks inflicted by sharp-edged weapon. The bodies were sent for the postmortem and reports are awaited, she said.
Jitendra’s six-year-old younger son who had gone to his maternal uncle house at the time of incident told police that his father was addicted to ganja and would fight with his grandparents and mother over money. Police suspect that on the ill-fated night, Jitendra might have asked his wife and parents for money to satisfy his ganja urge and a stern no from them might have threw him in rage leading to the chilling killings. Son of Jitendra’s relatives, who lives in neighbourhood also sustained minor injury in the incident.
