Australia’s RHD Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Pumps Out 640 HP And Is On Sale

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has officially landed on Australian shores thanks to Holden Special Vehicles.

HSV confirmed the arrival of the 2019 Camaro range to the Land Down Under in early March and has now revealed that the local ZL1 is rated at 640 hp (477 kW) at 6400 rpm and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque at 3600 rpm. Those familiar with the ZL1 will know that the U.S. model has 10 hp more, but the exact same torque figure.

It remains unclear why 10 hp has been lost in the process of converting the muscle car from left-hand drive to right-hand drive but in reality, owners will never be able to notice a 10 hp difference in a vehicle with this much grunt. Even at “only” 640 hp, the Camaro ZL1 will be one of the most powerful cars sold by GM in Australia right up with the HSV GTSR W1.

Like U.S. models, Camaro ZL1s bound for Australia come equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission with an Active Rev system and launch control. Customers can alternatively select a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, launch control, line-lock, and lift-foot gear hold tech. Elsewhere, the car comes equipped with Magnetic Ride Control dampers, an electronically-controlled limited slip differential, Brembo brakes with huge six-piston calipers at the front, and a bi-modal performance exhaust system.

Holden Special Vehicles recently started local re-manufacturing of the Camaro ZL1 at its production facility in Victoria. Local pricing for the car starts at $159,990.
