Huge quantity of goods gutted in fire at transport godown

Surat: A major fire broke out in a transport godown located at Sachin GIDC here on Friday afternoon. Textile and other material in huge quantity were gutted in the fire. Fire Brigade personnel extinguished the fire in three hours, which had quickly spread to the 40 feet long and 25 feet wide godown. There were no casualties in the fire at Lalji Mulji Transport Godown in plot no 2204 of Sachin GIDC. The godown was owned by Himanshu Navdiwala.
A Fire Brigade officer said, “Plastic items, textile material and chemical drums were gutted in the fire. A small tempo, which came loaded with material for delivery, caught fire and within minutes the blaze engulfed the godown. The assessment of loss is yet to be done. We are also investigating what caused the fire in the three-wheel tempo that destroyed the godown along with huge quantity of material.”
