Indore: As BJP and Congress are sharpening their poll fields in Malwa-Nimar, Madhya Pradesh West Region Power Distribution Company provided temporary electricity connection to 3,770 polling booths lacking electricity in the region. “Temporary electricity connections have been given to booths sans power following the directives by Election Commission,” said West Discom managing director Vikas Narwal.
After the Lok Sabha elections were announced, the Discom had started survey to find out booths, which has not electricity connection, in all 15 districts under it. There are total 18,592 booths in 15 districts under Discom, and out of them 3,770 were without electricity connection. Narwal directed officers concerned to ensure that temporary electricity connections are provided to these booths at least four days ahead of the polling. “The target has been achieved within the deadline,” said Awadhesh Sharma, publicity officer of Discom. Of 3,770 booths, 2,611 booths are located in Indore division and remaining 1,159 in Ujjain division. In Indore district, 20 booths are urban and 99 in rural areas.
