With days to go for the mammoth Lok Sabha election process to conclude and the votes to be counted, charges and attacks are flying thick and fast.

BSP chief Mayawati on Friday took potshots at the PM and targeted the Election Commission for its alleged inaction in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi, which is scheduled to vote on May 19.

Alleging that outsiders were threatening and luring voters in the star constituency, the BSP chief said, ”How can free and fair elections be held in such an atmosphere. Like West Bengal, why is EC not focusing on Varanasi?”

Mayawati, during her campaign has frequently attacked the BJP and the Prime Minister. She tweeted on Tuesday, “Prime Minister Modi government’s ship is sinking, even the RSS has stopped supporting them. In view of unfulfilled election promises and the public agitation, their swayamsevaks are not being seen putting in the work, it has made Shri Modi nervous,” the BSP chief tweeted.

This came a day after the two leaders sparred over alleged atrocities on Dalits.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hit out at the BSP chief, accusing her of “shedding crocodile tears” over an alleged gang rape in Rajasthan’s Alwar and dared her party to withdraw support from the Congress government in that state.
