Confident of winning all 22 seats; pledges to implement schemes

The byelections to the four Assembly constituencies will ensure change of State government, said DMK president M.K. Stalin at a campaign rally in Sulur on Thursday.

Speaking at Karavali Madhapudur in support of Pongalur N. Palanisamy, the Sulur candidate of the Secular Progressive Alliance, Mr. Stalin said the DMK would implement various schemes after coming to power.

In Kurumbapalayam, the DMK president recalled the policies and schemes implemented by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and assured the voters that he would follow in the footsteps of the late leader. Mr. Stalin said the DMK would build houses and community hall for the Arunthathiyars, desilt the Achankulam lake and ensure free power supply for the weavers.

Recalling the promises made in the party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, he said education loans would be waived and one crore youth, who have studied up to Class X, would be appointed for maintaining roads. Earlier in the day, Mr. Stalin held a thinnai (porch) campaign in Neelambur where he claimed that AIADMK was “broken into smithereens” following the demise of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Asserting that the DMK would win in all the 22 byelections and form the next government, he said the incumbent AIADMK government was “without majority” and was surviving with the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Stalin met the handloom weavers at Mudalipalayam and assured them that an amicable solution would be found for the GST issue once the party came to power. He also promised to supply handloom equipment at subsidised prices.
