Honda NSX Tries Its Luck Against Tuned 641 HP Nissan GT-R

There’s almost nothing like watching two Japanese titans fight each other for straight line supremacy, especially when they pack a combined total of 1,204 HP.

In the right corner, it’s the Honda NSX, which will set you back £144,825 ($184,336) in the UK. In return you gain an electrified powertrain, good for 573 HP (581 PS) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of torque, allowing you to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in just a little over 3 seconds flat.

In the left, the Nissan GT-R. It’s a formidable opponent even when stock, although this one features a Litchfield tune worth 631 HP (640 PS) and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque. On paper, it’s quicker than the NSX, needing 2.9 seconds to blast past 60 mph. It’s also a lot cheaper, too (mods included), at £98,895 ($125,875), and only weighs an extra 24 kg (53 lbs).

Of course, none of those factors deterred Top Gear’s Rory Reid from climbing behind the wheel of the NSX and trying his luck at slaying the Godzilla, which has been known to happen from time to time, especially in recent years as rival supercars have gotten more and more powerful.

While we won’t spoil the result, we will note that off the line, the two Japanese icons were neck and neck, which was to be expected since there’s not much between them in terms of 0-60 times.

However, once they got up to speed (which happened very quickly), a clear victor emerged. Was it who you think it is?
