The BJP has convened a meeting of its legislators and district unit presidents in Bengaluru on May 21, reportedly to discuss the prevailing drought situation.

However, political circles are seeing the meeting as a move to get the legislators to the State capital ahead of the declaration of the Lok Sabha election results on May 23, to be prepared for any eventuality soon after.

BJP leaders, including State president B.S. Yeddyurappa, have repeatedly been claiming that there will be political uncertainty after the results. Within the party too, several MLAs are viewing the move as an attempt to keep the flock together.

The legislators have been told to tour drought-hit areas under their jurisdiction and be prepared to discuss the matter. However, there is no bar on discussing other issues, say leaders.

In the run-up to the byelections to two Assembly seats in the State, BJP leaders have been claiming that winning those two segments — Chincholi and Kundagol — would bring the party closer to power in Karnataka.
