Condemning the attack on Congress lawmaker Aditi Singh in Rae Bareli on Tuesday, party general secretary (east UP) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday assured the zila panchayat members of Rae Bareli that they had nothing to fear.

She made the comment while visiting Rae Bareli on Wednesday, a day after Aditi Singh and zila panchayat members were attacked allegedly by supporters of zila panchayat chairman Awadhesh Singh and his brother Dinesh Pratap Singh on Tuesday.

“We will fight the case at all levels and take up the issue with the Election Commission and in court as well. We will teach the local BJP leaders a lesson,” she said at a meeting with zila panchayat members in Rae Bareli on Wednesday.

However, she cautioned them not to get involved in retaliatory violence.

“This is an attack on democracy. Nothing of this sort has ever happened in Rae Bareli. Countrymade weapons, bricks and lathis were used in the attack. Zila panchayat members were dragged from their vehicles,” she alleged.

She also alleged that one of the zila panchayat members was run over by a vehicle.

She later talked to him on phone

“What kind of democracy is this? It is the BJP government in the state when such incidents are taking place while the entire administration is sitting idle,” she said. The result of such tactics would come to the fore for BJP leaders on May 23 when the Lok Sabha results were declared, she said.
