Hindu Munnani questions EC’s inaction over complaints against Kamal Haasan

CHENNAI: Hindu Munnani founder Ramagolan on Thursday questioned Election Commission’s (EC) inaction over complaints lodged against actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan as well as Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) chief K Veeramani for hurting the sentiments of Hindus.
In a statement, Ramagopalan said over 30 complaints had been filed against Kamal for his speech on Hindus and Nathuram Godse -- who assassinated Gandhiji -- during an election campaign.
“When EC had taken action against ministers and even chief ministers in north India for such speeches, why no action has been taken against Kamal Haasan,” Ramagopalan asked. “Both Gandhiji and Godse were Hindus. Where does terror come here,” he wondered.
Recalling that Kamal was unrepentant in his speech on the ‘Hindu terror’ issue when he spoke in Madurai on Wednesday, Ramagopalan said Hindu activists, who protested peacefully, were arrested.

In the case of Veeramani too, Hindu Munnani activists had already filed complaint condemning his speech against Lord Krishna.
“While no action was taken against him, Veeramani even went on to reiterate his speech on television channels. Why the EC and the administrative authorities are not taking any action? Will they remain so, if others too start speaking and indulge in such rabble- rousing acts,” Ramagopalan wondered.
