A district-level committee is to be constituted in each district falling within the Central Zone to suggest welfare measures for retired police personnel. The committee would also offer suggestions on the aims, objectives, functioning and by laws for the Retired Police Personnel Welfare Board, so that the body can formulate various welfare measures.
The panel is to be constituted in each district based on a recent communication from the State police headquarters to all districts and police commissionerates following administrative sanction accorded by the State government for the formation of a Retired Police Personnel Welfare Board. The respective Zonal Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police concerned have been requested to take necessary action to constitute the district-level committees / city-level committee.
The Inspector General, Central Zone has under his jurisdiction eight districts: Tiruchi, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Karur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam. The Tiruchi City Commissionerate is headed by the Commissioner of Police who too is an IG rank officer.
The Zonal Inspector's General of Police concerned and the Commissioner of Police concerned have been empowered to appoint the Deputy Director, Assistant and Honorary Members of the committee at the district/city-level.
The Superintendent of Police would be the Deputy Director in the case of district-level committee, while the Deputy Commissioner of Police would be Deputy Director in respect of the city-level committee. The committee would consist of honorary members including some retired police personnel with women representative as well.
The tenure of the retired police officers and serving officers appointed as honorary members of the district / city-level committees for the Retired Police Personnel Welfare Board has been fixed as two years. The communication from the Director General of Police clearly specified that no persons should be re-nominated / re-appointed as a member after completion of one tenure (i.e two years).
The State police headquarters has asked the district-level and city-level committees to submit its recommendations on the welfare measures required by retired police personnel to the Zonal Inspector General of Police / Commissioner of Police before June 20.
The Inspector General / Commissioner of Police would thereafter scrutinize the recommendations and requirements prior to submitting consolidated proposals to the State-level committee before June 30, the communication further said.
Upon receipt of the recommendations from across the districts and cities, the State-level committee would discuss and formulate various welfare measures to be taken up for implementation and submit the proposal in this regard to the State government before July 10. Based on government’s approval, the by laws, activities and functioning would be organised and conducted. A senior police officer here said necessary orders would be issued soon to appoint the members of the district-level committees soon.
