The police on Thursday arrested two men for allegedly brandishing a toy gun and threatening a toll collector at Kherki Daula toll plaza to skip paying toll on Wednesday night. The police said that they used the CCTV footage of the incident to nab the suspects.

The accused men were identified as Kashish Lamba (23) from Pathankot, Punjab, and Mohit (27) from Karnal. The police said that both the suspects had met each other at a coaching centre in the city at least two years ago.

After receiving a tipoff, the police arrested Mohit, a teacher at a private school in Farrukhnagar, from Hero Honda Chowk and Lamba, who is training at a private company from Sector 18 on Thursday, the police said.

According to police, the incident took place in lane number 19 of the Kherki Daula toll plaza on Wednesday around 9.40pm.

“Two men, who were driving a car, were stopped at the toll plaza and when asked to pay the toll, one of them got off, brandished his gun and threatened to kill the toll collector. He then pushed the boom barrier and drove off with his friend without paying the toll,” Amit Singh, manager, Kherki Daula toll plaza, said in his complaint.

Muhammad Akil, commissioner, Gurugram police, said, “The suspects were in an inebriated state and used a toy gun to threaten the toll collector. The police are investigating if they have used the toy gun in the past to commit a crime.”

A case was registered against the suspects under section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Kherki Daula police station on Wednesday, the police said.

Kripal Singh, spokesperson, Skylark Infra Engineering Private Limited that operates the Kherki Daula toll plaza, said, “Such incidents are very common here. Our staff gets abused on a daily basis because people don’t want to pay the toll. Due to this, we have shortage of manpower as no one wants to work here.”

Singh added that there are not many policemen available at the toll plaza. This is why most of the miscreants get away.
