NCP leader demands sexual favours from woman, booked

Nagpur: Sohail Patel, general secretary of Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) minority cell, was on Tuesday booked by Pachpaoli police for allegedly demanding sexual favours from a 38-year-old woman.
Police have registered a case of sexual harassment against Patel under sections of IPC and Prevention of Atrocities Act.
NCP city president Anil Ahirkar confirmed that Pate is NCP’s minority cell general secretary for Vidarbha and claimed that he is involved in several social works.
According to police, the survivor used to run a restaurant at a mall on Kamptee Road and was involved in a dispute with her old partner. After a few days, the electricity of the restaurant was cut by the mall owner. The survivor was running from pillar to post for help to start her restaurant again.

She came in contact with Patel who promised to help her start the restaurant again and also settle the dispute with the mall owner. However, the accused allegedly demanded sexual favours from her, following which she filed a complaint.
Several questions were also raised over Pachpaoli police’s delay in filing the complaint. It is learnt that the investigation will be done by ACP Raj Ratan Bansode.
