“The U.S. automobile industry and American consumers will suffer a body blow should the President sign an Executive Order threatening new taxes on autos and auto parts. Current tariffs have added cost, reduced the industry’s global competitiveness, and created tremendous uncertainty resulting in slowed investment and growth. The idea that U.S. automakers are threatened by automotive imports is fundamentally flawed and ill conceived. Quotas would be even more devastating to the auto industry, our workers, and millions of Americans should they be imposed. No automaker or auto parts supplier asked for this “protection.” We are headed down a dangerous and destructive course and strongly urge that the Administration not impose tariffs or quotas.”
