A dating app aimed exclusively at singles who went to private school has launched in Australia.

Toffee is the world's first dating app aimed at the privately educated with the hope of uniting people with 'similar backgrounds'.

The app has already caused a stir in the UK, but the founders insist that there is 'method behind the media storm'.

'Toffee offers another way of connecting people, based on common ground,' the UK-based founder Lydia Davis told FEMAIL.

'We set it up because we know people from similar backgrounds are more likely to stick together.'

Like dating app juggernauts Tinder and Bumble, Toffee is similar insofar as users swipe right to 'like' someone or 'left' to indicate that they are not interested.

However, where it differs is that the app has a 'slider' function, where users can slide to show off how adventurous, how sporty and how much of a party animal they are.

Instead, Toffee offers several 'prompt questions' with 'tongue-in-cheek suggested answers' - which help to avoid the faux pas of an empty bio.

The app has a section dedicated to users' 'perfect menu', as well as a 'social calendar' section designed to showcase whether middle-class users are set to attend the same events.
