Health officials file court complaint, wait for FIR

Surat: Investigation in the sex determination racket in Varachha has hit a road block. The health officials have filed a complaint with the local court as per the guidelines of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, but a FIR is yet to be filed against the accused homeopath doctors Sagar Patel and Dinesh Patel.
Meanwhile, the health department officials claimed that they has submitted written complaint to city police commissioner requesting a formal FIR but police have claimed that they are yet to receive any such complaint.
After filing court complaint, the health officials are now waiting for further orders which is likely to be issued on next hearing.
“We have submitted the complaint in court and after preliminary findings we feel that there is a need for detailed investigation. We have seized one sonography machine and it will be sent for technical analysis to forensic science laboratory (FSL),” said Dr Hasmukh Chaudhary, chief district medical officer, Surat.

Meanwhile, city police chief Satish Sharma said, “We are yet to receive any complaint from the health officials. However, we will act only after court’s order since a complaint has already been filed there.”
The sex determination racket was unearthed after top officials of health department in Gandhinagar received anonymous letter about it. The person had provided specific information about the racket at Jivan Jyot Hospital in Matawadi on L H Road of Varachha.
