Asserting that the AMMK will not have any political understanding with the DMK at any point in time, its general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Wednesday said DMK president M.K. Stalin’s desire of becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu will remain nothing more than a dream.

Addressing reporters in Tirunelveli before leaving for Pudukottai to start the Ottapidaram byelection campaign, Mr. Dhinakaran alleged that Mr. Stalin was claiming that the DMK will form a government in Tamil Nadu after May 23 to fetch votes for his party’s candidates in the bypolls.

Coming to power may be his dream. But it will remain a daydream, he said. Though the AMMK’s immediate objective was to put an end to the “anti-people” government in Tamil Nadu, it would never support Mr. Stalin’s ascension to power, Mr. Dhinakaran said.

When asked if AIADMK MLAs would support him en masse after the election results are declared on May 23, Mr. Dhinakaran said he would rather prefer fresh polls for seeking people’s support.

“We want to come to power in Tamil Nadu only with a clear mandate and not through any other means,” he said.

On the personal attacks on him during electioneering by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam, the AMMK leader claimed they had fully understood that the people of Tamil Nadu had voted overwhelmingly for ‘Gift Pack’ (AMMK’s symbol) in the Lok Sabha polls, and hence, were targeting him out of frustration.
