THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a horrific incident, a woman was allegedly killed by her husband after a
domestic quarrel broke out between them near Karakulam under
Nedumangad police station limits outside the city.
Smitha, 38, residing at Madappad near Mullasseri in Karakulam village was killed by
Sajeev Kumar, 49, who has surrendered before the police.
According to Nedumangad police, the crime occurred during the early hours of Thursday when the accused returned home and picked up a quarrel with his wife. During the quarrel, he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her. The injured woman ran out of the house to save her life. But, the accused chased her down before she could get away and slashed her throat. Shortly after the incident, he turned up before the police and surrendered himself.
Sources in the police said that Sajeev Kumar, who is a rubber rapper by profession, often used to beat up his wife under the influence of alcohol. Even though they had had a love marriage, he always ill-treated her, according to his neighbours.
Nedumangad DSP B Vinod said an inquest procedure was conducted on the woman's body and a complaint has been registered.
Smitha and Sajeev have two daughters, both in their early teens.
