heart, liver and eyes of a cadaver donor have given a new lease of life to seven people. Vrajesh Shah,
42,
a businessman and resident of Palanpur canal road, suffered severe headache on May 12 and was admitted to Unique Hospital. A brain scan revealed that there were blood clots in his brain. He was declared dead on May 15 by doctors. Vrajesh’s wife Vaishali, father Navin and mother Surya decided to donate his organs. He has two daughters Pankti,

11.Doctors of Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre, Ahmedabad harvested Vrajesh’s kidneys and liver while donation of his heart was accepted by Fortis Healthcare. Vrajesh’s lungs were donated to a hospital in Bengaluru and eyes to an eye hospital in Surat to give vision to two blind persons. Yashpal Singh Matiada, 20, a resident of Ahmedabad, was recipient of a kidney while another was transplanted into the body of Kamlesh Solanki, 28, also from Ahmedabad. Vrajesh’s liver was transplanted in the body of Dinesh Patel, 47, a resident of Unja.
This was first donation of lungs in the city. A special corridor was created to take them to BGS Global Hospital in Bengaluru from Surat. This helped to cover a distance of 1,293km in 195 minutes. Vrajesh’s lungs were transplanted successfully into the body of 59-year-old Ashok Chaudhary at BGS Global Hospital.
Prakash Shah, 44, a resident of Surat, was recipient of Vrajesh’s heart. It was transplanted into him at Fortis Healthcare in Mumbai. Vrajesh’s heart reached Mumbai within 90 minutes, a distance of 269km from the city. This was 22nd heart donation from Surat thanks to Donate Life, Surat, which has also facilitated donation of 291 kidneys, 121 livers, seven pancreases, two lungs and 232 eyes from South Gujarat, including Surat, in the past couple of years.
