AGRA: The photo of a 22-year-old youth, purportedly showing him flaunting an illegal country-made pistol, landed him in jail after it turned up on social media platforms and was noticed by district police in Kasganj.
In the selfie, Subhash Singh, a resident of Nagla Ghirdhari village of Kasganj, is seen holding the .315 bore pistol atop a tree.
Soon, he was arrested and the gun and its two cartridges were seized.
Speaking to TOI, station house officer (SHO) of Patiyali, Manoj Kumar said, “With the help of surveillance team, Subhash was nabbed from his house. During interrogation, he claimed that he bought the country-made pistol and took selfie with weapon to post it on Facebook. He just wanted to flaunt it.” Subhas is Class XII pass out, and works on farm field with his father.
The SHO said, “In Kasganj and neighboring Etah districts, there is growing trend among unemployed youths of taking selfie with weapons and posting it on social media to show their masculinity.”

Ashok Kumar Shukla, superintendent of police, Kasganj said, “It’s very unfortunate that youths are carrying weapon to show off. Therefore it’s a need of hour to crack down heavily on such people who are influencing others or are getting influenced by others to carry illegal arms. We need support of parents and want to request them to keep a tab on their children, or they will fall into trap of anti-social elements.”
He said, “Earlier in the month, another youth who was aspiring to join police force was caught while firing shots in air with country-made pistol. His act was circulated on social media and we nabbed him. Unfortunately, he will no longer be able to apply for government jobs at least due to charges of arms act.”
